Editor in Chief
My L.A. childhood included an alternative school, granola, camping the back roads of Oregon in my mom’s VW van, and a head of pink, black and red hair. So it’s no wonder that the eclectic content mix of Calmful Living is right up my alley. My 20-plus-year journalism career has been in the natural-health and wellness space. I was the Editor in Chief of Natural Foods Merchandiser magazine, the leading B-to-B publication serving natural-products retailers, and a contributing writer for numerous trade and consumer natural-health publications, including Yoga Journal, Vegetarian Times, Whole Living, Herb Quarterly, Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals, and Nutrition Science News. I’d love to hear from you at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I credit my rebellious nature and childhood diet of sugared cereals and frozen dinners with my early interest in healthy eating. Exploration into my personal nutrition later led to a master’s degree in biological anthropology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I focused my studies on cross-cultural nutrition and human evolution. For the last twenty years I have worked as a writer and editor, educating readers on topics that enrich their lives and improve their well-being. Among the numerous publications I have written for are Alternative Medicine, Body & Soul, Essence, Fitness, Glamour, Gourmet, Natural Health, Pilates Style, and Yoga Journal. I am also the author of two books: User’s Guide to Natural Remedies for Depression and The Soy Sensation. I live in stunning Portland, Oregon, with my son. When I am not writing or parenting, you can find me running on wooded trails, practicing yoga, or trying new recipes.
I’m a Colorado-based writer, musician, meditator, traveler, home chef, and father of three who holds an MFA in poetry from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. I am insatiably curious—some would say OCD—and read constantly on a wide variety of topics, including football, nonduality, Native American flutes, and more.
