4 Hotel Chains with Awesome Wellness Perks
Hotels have realized that there’s an unmet need for guests to maintain their health during travel that goes beyond gyms, pools and spas. To meet this need, some hotels are designing rooms to reduce jet lag, induce better sleep, provide in-room fitness equipment, supply purified water and air, and more. According to research firm Wellness Travel Worldwide, sectors of the travel and leisure industry are working hard to make everything from the bed you sleep on to the food you eat healthier. Here’s a look at four hotel chains with noteworthy wellness programs.
Westin (including W, Sheraton, St. Regis, Aloft and more)
We love what Westin is doing to ramp up its efforts to support a healthy lifestyle for its guests. Its recently launched program Westin Well-Being Movement provides health-supporting amenities and programs for guests, such as SuperFoodsRx dishes offered on menus, like pumpkin & carrot ginger soup and yogurt & fruit parfaits; they even have a Healthy Kids Menu. Its Gear Lending program gets New Balance clothes, shoes and socks delivered to your room for $5.00 to use during your stay. Some locations have a Run Concierge who hosts group runs, and all locations will give you a map with two suggested routes. Its Headspace program offers guided meditations you can listen to in your room with headphones to help you relax, calm down about a presentation, and more. You get the idea!
Although the first EVEN hotel isn’t set to open until mid-June, we had to mention this innovative new family of health-and-wellness-focused hotels owned by the InterContinental Hotels Group. The entire midrange-priced hotel is designed to bring a sense of wellness and serenity to guests from the moment they walk in and are offered a warm or cool towel and a beverage. Rooms will have training zones with yoga mats, balance balls and other equipment. For the business traveler who doesn’t want to work at a traditional desk, there’s a clutter-free rolling desk, standing-desk options and ergonomic chairs. Food choices will include items like kale salads and chicken atop quinoa, along with options for special diets. The chain just announced a new coming location in Brooklyn.
We give big kudos to Hyatt for partnering with sustainable-food pioneer Alice Waters to create its organic kids’ food menus “For Kids By Kids.” On each menu you will find an organic three-course option. This goes hand in hand with the company’s Food, Thoughtfully Sourced, Carefully Served philosophy, which emphasizes sustainable foods. In addition to many locations offering state-of-the-art fitness rooms, Stay Fit Fitness Concierges at certain locations will provide GPS watches with run routes, and monitor a route so runners can feel safe.
The Stay Well Rooms at this Vegas hotel offer guests amenities to antidote overdoing it and to promote wellness. Designed by experts at the Cleveland Clinic and holistic-health authority Dr. Deepak Chopra, in addition to a bed in these rooms you’ll find vitamin C–infused showers, dawn-simulating alarm clocks, melatonin-producing lighting, and healthy food menu options. Guests can access in-room fitness equipment and healthy lifestyle education as well as take-home tips, programs and wellness apps.
