Finding My Calm: A 7-Year-Old
There are a lot of things Celia Konrad likes about second grade. She gets to walk, or skip, the block to and from school with friends or a sister. Once there, her favorite activities are recess and the library. The life of a second grader does come with its own set of stressors, however. For Celia, it’s pre-spelling test anxiety and feeling left out. “It’s hard when my older sisters say they’ll play with me and then decide to play something else,” she says.
“I like the pictures, and Amelia is so funny; she makes me laugh and that calms me down.”
When asked what she does when it’s time to find some calm, the bright-eyed 7-year-old is quick to respond, “I read.” Celia’s special place to tuck into a book is her bedroom, where she has a delightful canopy bed to curl up in and relax. Her current favorite book? The classic Amelia Bedelia. “I like the pictures, and Amelia is so funny; she makes me laugh and that calms me down,” says Celia.
