Make Your Own Aromatherapy Room Spray

A brighter mood or a calmer demeanor is literally one spray away with these natural and easy-to-make aromatherapy room sprays. Give it a try. (Makes a fun kid activity too. Try a calming blend and add to your child’s bedtime ritual.)

What you’ll need:

  • A clean 4-ounce bottle with a fine-mist setting. Glass or metal is preferable, as essential oils can eat through plastic.
  • 2 ounces of distilled water.
  • 1-ounce alcohol; vodka will do. You don’t have to use alcohol, but the spray won’t last as long without it.
  • Essential oils. We suggest organic because they are grown without pesticides. See blend ideas below.

Shake the bottle well before each use, as the oils tend to sit on the surface.

Create your own custom diffuser scents by mixing and matching 5 to 20 drops of the following essential oils.

Calming: valerian, lavender, chamomile

Energizing: grapefruit, basil, rosemary, peppermint

Confidence boosting: orange and rosemary

Deodorizing: rosemary, mint, eucalyptus, lemon, oregano

thank you so much ! I recommend you Everclear Alcohol is safety more than isopropyl alcohol 🙂

  • Ly says:

If you don’t use alcohol, how long will the spray last? How long does it last with the alcohol? Thanks

    • Becky Aaroen Hane says:

I’m just starting with the essential oil sprays, but I make gem waters and if alcohol isn’t added to that they only last a few days, so I’m thinking it’s about the same with these. 🙂

I don’t know about everyone else’s, but my eucalyptus is so strong that I only put about 5 drops in and that’s all I can smell. I also put lemon and lime in, but matter how much I put in it was overpowered. Also, does the alcohol smell eventually fade? It smells pretty strongly of alcohol and I put a rather small amount in.

Frankinsence 20 drops, lavender 5 drops, 2 parts distilled water, 1 part vodka is divine.
